KSS based and primarily works in tribal dominated Udham Singh Nagar district of
Uttarakhand. Uttarakhand has a total geographic area of 53,566 km², of which 93%
is mountainous and 64% is covered by forest. According to 2011 India census, Uttarakhand
had a population of 10,116,752. The native people of Uttarakhand are generally called
either Kumaoni or Garhwali depending on their place of origin in either the Garhwal
or region.There are 13 districts in Uttarakhand which are grouped into two divisions,
Kumaon and Garhwal. Udham Singh Nagar district falls in the Tarai region of Kumaon
Division. The geographical area of the district is 3055 Km and in aerially it ranks
9th in Uttarakhand state. The district is bounded by Nainital and Champawat districts
of Uttarakhand on the north, Rampur, Nazibabad and Philibhit districts of Uttar
Pradesh on the south, Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh on west and Nepal on the
east. In 2011, US Nagar had population of 1,648,902 of which male and female were
858,783 and 790,119 respectively. The district is the food bowl of Uttarakhand State.
Prior to its formation, it was part of District Nainital. It was separated out on
the basis of physiographical conditions i.e. Tarai. It is also well known for the
industries as the geographical location is conducive. The district is famous for
its agriculture and irrigation on synchronized patterns from the past as garner
of popularity for its productivity in paddy crops in the whole Uttarakhand state,
and it is rightly called “Chawal ki Nagari”. Initially Kumaum Seva Samiti - KSS
India started working mainly in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand but KSS
India has kept in mind the commitments of women and children to the issues of rural
and urban women, youth (boys and girls), other stakeholders (government, media &
other agencies) and works on the issue of women empowerment, child rights, health,
education, strengthening local self-government institutions and livelihood security.
The organization is currently working in the whole Uttarakhand including Himachal
and Uttar Pradesh.
