Human trafficking is the fastest growing human rights violation and criminal act
in the world. It encompasses a whole gamut of abuse that spreads from sale for sex,
forced child marriage, child labour, beggary, slavery and worse.
KSS has been working to prevent trafficking on the Indo-Nepal border in cooperation
with the border security forces, officials and various non-governmental organizations.
Our activities include awareness raising and legal sensitization camps. Such workshops
have been organised at the police lines of district headquarters and with the Anti
Human Trafficking unit of the Uttarakhand Police. In such trainings the focus is
on protection, safety and rehabilitation.
In 2015, post the devastating earthquake in Nepal, there was an alarming rise in
cases of human trafficking. KSS President Ms. Jaya Misra had then conducted an in-depth
study on the ‘Post Disaster Possibilities of Cross Border Trafficking around Nepal’
by touring Sindhupal Chowk and other areas which had borne the worst brunt of the
disaster.
India and Nepal- much like the rest of the world have numerous laws that aim to
curb trafficking of women and children. Yet poor implementation and commercial greed
have rendered these laws ineffective. KSS is dedicated to advocate for stronger
laws and better implementation in both countries.
